Years ago it was good if a mare produced a 2:00 performer and great if she produced more than one in the “charmed list.”

Royalflash Hanover is one of three 1:50 performers produced by the 15-year-old Direct Scooter mare Rich N Elegant.

Those days are long gone, and some broodmares have raised the bar for excellence in Standardbred speed production by producing more than one 1:50 performer. There are nine such mares.

Leading the way with three 1:50 performers is the 15-year-old Direct Scooter mare Rich N Elegant, the pride and joy of the Hanover Shoe Farms broodmare band. She is the dam of Red River Hanover (1:48.4), Royalflush Hanover (1:49.3), and Rocknroll Hanover (1:49.4).

Her foals not only go fast, but they also make money. With eight foals of racing age, Rich N Elegant has five pacers with earnings in excess of $500,000. Her son Rocknroll Hanover is being pointed for the major sophomore pacing stakes this season.
