Museum to present works by Allen Brewer

from the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame

Goshen, NY — The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame is currently planning the installation of a new gallery exhibit showcasing the works of talented artist and 1979 Hall of Fame Immortal Allen Brewer.

Allen Brewer

Brewer, who was an extremely talented artist, was also one of the few people licensed to drive Standardbreds and train both them and Thoroughbreds. He died in a plane crash in 1967 at the height of his career. His art can be found in the Museum and in the homes of many members of the harness racing community.

With the help of Brewer’s daughter Susan, who is borrowing works held by family members, and the Museum’s collection of original paintings as well as displays of memorabilia supporting the subjects in his artwork, we anticipate a worthy tribute to his memory and an affectionate remembrance of people, horses and events whom he chronicled.

To augment the presentation we invite owners of his paintings and drawings that have a Standardbred connection to participate in the project by contacting the Museum to discuss a 12 month loan that will allow us to provide an extensive example of Brewer’s work. Please contact Gail Cunard, the Museum’s director, with any ideas, suggestions and offers of help that could support this initiative.

The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame is located at 240 Main Street in Goshen, New York and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last tour 4:00 p.m.) Thanks to USTA support the Museum is currently offering free admission for walk-in visitors and $4.00/person for group docent-guided tours. For information on the Museum, special events, gift shop services and educational programs the Museum offers, please call 845.294.6330 or visit www.harnessmuseum.com.
