NAADA donates to Tunnel to Towers Foundation

Yonkers, NY — Being the NY Metropolitan area’s local amateur club, our members were deeply impacted by the horrific events of 9/11. As such, the membership of the North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA), one of the oldest amateur driving clubs in the USA, is donating $2,500 to the Tunnel to Towers (T2T) Foundation.

NAADA president Joe Faraldo announced the contribution to this 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in the name of but one of the 343 fire fighters who laid down their lives on that day.

Faraldo said, “The T2T foundation was established in the memory of NYC firefighter Stephen Siller, who on his golf day off, diverted to his firehouse on learning of the attack, returned to his firehouse, got his gear and encountering a tunnel closed to vehicular traffic, literally ran though the Brooklyn Battery tunnel to meet his fate while trying to save lives at the World Trade Center.”

Alicia Schwartz, NAADA’s events coordinator, recommended the donation during this week of remembrance of that tragic day. Mrs. Schwartz is the wife of NAADA Vice-President Alan Schwartz, himself a Vietnam veteran. She said that Tunnel to Towers “returns 95 percent of the received contributions to its very worthy beneficiaries. T2T established a Smart Home Project for US Armed Forces members that provides mortgage free homes to those who suffered catastrophic deployment injuries and have limited mobility. NAADA is proud to help such a worthy cause.”

Anyone else moved by Siller’s courage can also contribute to this worthy cause and is encouraged to do so at Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
