Napolitano wins six at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — George Napolitano Jr., the perennial king of the driving colony at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, posted his second straight six-win program at the mountain oval on Sunday evening (March 14).

Two of George’s six wins came for trainer Gilbert Garcia-Herrera, who now has nine wins at Pocono this year, one more than Jenn Bongiorno and Dan Maier. The pair teamed up to take a co-featured $10,000 distaff pace with the Art Major mare Crazy Cute, who, despite an 80-day layoff, set the pace and used a :55.2 final half to secure a 1:53.4 win, the fastest clocking of the card.

In a co-featured $10,000 conditioned trot, Wilberforce made every pole a winning one for driver Jim Morrill Jr. in a 1:55.3 triumph. Trainer Kris Rickert co-owns the Caviar Crown gelding with Dale Wareham.

Of the 15 horses claimed out of the first round of the Game Of Claims Trotting Series for $15,000 horses — including three of the four winners — 14 are scheduled to go to the gate Monday afternoon (March 15) for their new connections in four $15,000 second-round divisions. Monday’s first post is 12:30 p.m.; program pages are available here.
