New Mixed Sale planned in the Midwest

from the Midwest Auction Company, LLC

Shipshewana IN — A brand new outlet for racehorses and breeding stock is slated to start in Indiana this fall. The Midwest Mixed Sale has been formed primary due to the strength and recent explosive growth of the Indiana and Ohio racing and breeding programs. The sale has set a date of Black Friday, Nov. 24.

The location for the event will be at the all-new Michiana Event Center that is being constructed in Shipshewana, Ind. The state-of-the-art facility will feature nearly 250,000 square feet under roof, including more than 350 stalls in a fully climate controlled and ventilated barn, a 3,500 seat coliseum, a 100,000 square foot expo hall and parking for nearly 1,000 vehicles.

The venue will also be home to the newly-formed Michiana Classic Yearling Sale, which will be held Saturday (Nov. 25).

The Midwest Mixed Sale will feature all of the latest features, including TrackIT real-time pedigrees, 50 percent of sale proceeds paid day of the sale, sale catalogues available on the Equineline app and live streaming video of the sale.

The sale is being headed up by Jeff Fought, who also shares ownership in the Hoosier Classic, Buckeye Classic and Michiana Classic yearling sales; Susan Garrels, who manages Cornerstone Stock Farm in Indiana; and David and Elizabeth Fought, who also share ownership in the sales and farm. The newly formed company is the Midwest Auction Company, LLC.

“I feel like the time is now for the Midwest market, and racehorses and breeding stock are at a premium. The breeding and racing programs in Indiana and Ohio are phenomenally strong, the Breeders Crown is at Hoosier Park this year, and the yearling sales in both states are setting records,” stated Jeff Fought. “Harrisburg is a great national outlet and there’s the Blooded Horse Sales Co. with several sales per year, but there is definitely a need for this sale. There isn’t another facility in the Midwest like the new MEC that is being constructed, and the goal is to do everything first class all the way with this sale.”

The sale will effectively be the last chance to pick up breeding stock for the year, as well as be a marketplace for horses done racing at Hoosier Park as Miami Valley and other winter meets kick off.
