New owner Brian Mazurek joins Ryan Macedonio on TrotCast

by Ryan Macedonio, for TrotCast

Goshen, NY — Every new owner in harness racing has a dream to win that first race. Brian Mazurek did just that last Thursday (May 11) night in a regular race at Yonkers Raceway, but to him it was like winning the Kentucky Derby.

Through the fractional ownership group VIP Stable, Mazurek, a harness racing writer and the track handicapper at Buffalo Raceway, was able to purchase 1 percent ownership of American Alive, a $12,500 claimer at Yonkers Raceway. It is still undetermined which 1 percent of the horse Brian owns…the hoof, part of the tail, left or right ear.

Even at 1 percent ownership, it was a thrill of a lifetime, as he and his wife watched Yonkers live streaming from their iPad on Thursday night and screamed for joy as American Alive crossed the wire first.

Mazurek discusses all the emotions associated with owning racehorse and the process he went through to become a brand new partner.
