New track, driver for Beatgoeson Hanover in Casual Breeze

Campbellville, ON — Beatgoeson Hanover will make her Canadian debut on Friday (June 3) at Mohawk Racetrack in one of two Casual Breeze divisions for 3-year-old trotting fillies.

Beatgoeson Hanover will be looking to make it two-for-two in her sophomore season. Off of a win on May 26 in her 2011 debut, trainer Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman thinks his filly is ready for the Campbellville oval.

“She raced good at The Meadowlands last week,” said the Allentown, New Jersey resident. “She’s come back good this year, it seems like. She’s a nice, big, strong filly and she’s got a good draw. She’ll be pretty competitive.”

Drawing post position one will suit the bay’s style.

“The rail is a good post for her,” Norman explained. “She likes to get away in the top five or six anyways, so it’s fine for her.”

Beatgoeson Hanover shipped well from her New Jersey home, but found the climate in Ontario a little colder than what she was used to.

“It was pretty cold there last night, they told me, so she wasn’t used to that,” Norman said, who has opted to stay in Allentown until next weekend. “She might like the little colder weather.”

With a new track, the conditioner has enlisted a new driver without any concerns. Up and comer Scott Zeron will be in the sulky.

“He’ll get to know her pretty quickly,” Norman said. “I’ve watched Scott drive a little bit and he looks like he’s a very talented, young guy and looks like he gets along with any kind of horse. It seems like he has nice, soft hands.”

The daughter of Andover Hall-Beat The Wheel had a solid freshman campaign, boasting a record of 5-0-1 in eight starts with a bankroll of $172,546. Her biggest win was the $200,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship at Harrah’s Chester.

Her 2-year-old year, however, wasn’t free of hiccups. With two breaks on her lines, Norman explains that it wasn’t caused by her behavior.

“Her biggest issue last year was she tied up a couple of times, otherwise her manners are very good,” he said. “That’s her only problem.”

Norman acquired Beatgoeson Hanover at the Harrisburg sale in 2009 and it was her price and breeding that caught his eye.

“She wasn’t expensive, she was only $40,000,” he recalled. “She was just a nice, plain, bay Andover Hall filly, out of a great mare, so I liked the look of her and she wasn’t over priced.”

Beatgoeson Hanover will travel quite a bit this summer as she is eligible to several stakes, including the Hambletonian Oaks and Pennsylvania Sire Stakes. Norman is hopeful she will remain competitive.
