New track records in Ohio State Fair at Scioto

Columbus, OH — Chris Beaver trainees bookended the $48,000 divisions of the Ohio State Fair for 2-year-old male trotters Thursday (Aug. 5) at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Caviar Gold started the card off hot, winning in 1:55.2 and setting a new track record for 2-year-old colt trotters. Gabbys Bit Coin then set foot on the track in race 11 and set a new track record for 2-year-old trotting geldings of 1:54.4.

Leaving from post seven, Aaron Merriman sent Caviar Gold straight to the top and the pair never looked back, setting fractions of :28, :57.4 and 1:27. Creatine Star (Brett Miller) sat in the pocket and came up the inside passing lane to just miss and finished second by a nose. Rose Run Xtra (Chris Page) pulled from fourth going to the three-quarter pole to get up for third.

Caviar Gold is trained by breeder and co-owner Chris Beaver, whose partners are Bill Manes, Leo Fleming and Steven Zeehandelar. Caviar Gold is by Triumphant Caviar out of the Holiday Road mare Gee O’Keeffe and is still perfect with three wins in three starts and has $64,000 in earnings. The 4-5 race favorite paid $3.80 to win.

Gabbys Bit Coin (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) took a slightly different route to the winner’s circle, settling in third during the :27.4 and :57 opening quarters. Pulling by the 1:25.4 three-quarters, the Uncle Peter gelding won by three lengths over Up Blueberry Hill (Page). Chulo (Miller) got up for third.

Beaver co-bred and co-owns Gabbys Bit Coin with Johanna Beaver. Out of the Triumphant Caviar mare Gabbysloosechange, Gabbys Bit Coin is also three-for-three and has $64,000 in earnings. Going off at 5-2, he paid $7.80 to win.

Guido Di (Brady Brown) was set off as the 3-5 favorite in the second division. The pair led gate-to-wire through fractions of :29.1, 1:00 and 1:28.3. They won by 1-1/2 lengths over The Mighty Hill (Merriman) in 1:56.4. Unhitched (Page) held on for third. The gelded son of Wishing Stone-Focus On Me-SJ’s Caviar is owned by Virginia Schoeffel, Kathy Schoeffel, Lewis Falton and Marian Schilling.

Two-year-old filly trotters also competed Thursday evening in four divisions vying for $143,300 in purses. Beaver trainees Gabbys C Note (Miller) and Stephanie Hill (Merriman) won in 1:56.2 and 1:58.4, respectively.

Gabbys C Note (Triumphant Caviar-Gabby’s Creditcard-Credit Winner) won by seven lengths for breeder and co-owner Johanna Beaver, whose partners are trainer Beaver and Zeehandelar.

Stephanie Hill, bred by Double Spring Farm, is by What The Hill, out of the Ilooklikemymom mare I Like Stephanie and is owned by Chris Beaver and Moger-Delia Racing Inc.

Alana Hill won by three-quarters of a length in 1:58.1 for Miller and trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. By What The Hill out of the Swan For All mare Andi’s Alana, Alana Hill is owned by GC Gold Racing, Walnut View Farm and John Schlabach. The filly was bred by Cornerstone Stock Farm.

The last division was won by Sweet On Pete and Anthony MacDonald. Trained by Jason McGinnis, Sweet on Pete is by Uncle Peter, out of the Angus Hall mare Oh Sweet Baby. Bred by Steiner Stock Farm, Sweet On Pete is owned by Thestable Sweet On Pete and Hutchison Harness. The time of the mile was 1:58.2.

Ohio State Fair action continues Friday (Aug. 6) with three divisions of 2-year-old filly pacers and two divisions each of 3-year-old filly pacers and 3-year-old filly trotters. First post is 6:15 p.m.
