Dayton, OH — Despite a 24-day layoff, Gloire Dream swept to an impressive 1:54.3 triumph in the $18,500 Peak Performance Open Trot at Hollywood Dayton Raceway on Thursday night (Oct. 26).
The 6-year-old chestnut gelding was unhurried from the innermost post position in the early going. After getting away sixth through an opening quarter in :27.2, driver Jeremy Smith angled Gloire Dream into second-over position during the :29.1 second panel, then swung three-wide around the final turn approaching the 1:25.1 third station.
Penn (Josh Sutton), the winner of the last two Opens at Dayton, had reached the top with relative ease but yielded uncharacteristically easily at the head of the stretch, with both the winner and first-over Cantab Lindy (Tyler Smith), the runner-up, moving past the even-money favorite.
It was the fifth seasonal victory for Gloire Dream and raised his 2017 bankroll to $52,690 in 23 starts. Tyler George trains the winner, who was winless in just five starts last year, for owner CC Racing LLC.
