Batavia, NY — 2-year-old New York bred colt and gelding trotters take center stage when racing resumes on Friday night (Aug 5) at Batavia Downs Casino.

The 12-race program consists of six New York Sire Stakes divisions worth $19,700 each, including a non-betting event that goes off at 6:15 p.m. The first pari-mutuel race of the evening begins at 6:40 p.m.

The most contentious NYSS divisions occur in races two and ten, with the second race chock full of talented freshman.

The undefeated Conway Way-Penny Dream colt, A Penny Earned, looks to make it 4-for-4 to begin his career. Stephane Bouchard, who drove him in his first NYSS win, gets the return call for trainer George Ducharme. A Penny Earned took a division of the Tompkins-Geers at Tioga Downs in 1:57.4.

Royal Shyster, a Rc Royalty-Spin The Planet colt has been no worse than second in four lifetime starts with his 1:58.4 mark also set in the Tompkins-Geers at Tioga. Dan Daley is the trainer/driver.

It’s hard to find fault with the Credit Winner-Kelly Hall colt, Delano, who is undefeated when he stays on gait. His only loss came when he made a costly break at Buffalo Raceway. Western New York native Ray Schnittker is the trainer-driver of his colt who also won a division of the Tompkins-Geers in 1:58.1.

And last but not least is the Conway Hall-Articulate colt, Southwind Austin. This Julie Miller trainee came a furious back half of 58.2 to score last time out at Yonkers in 2:02.1. Steve Smith gets the return call.

Race 10 features the ultra-talented Flyhawk Jester. The Rc Royalty-Graduation Party colt has been most impressive in all of his lifetime starts. His only defeat came when he was parked the mile yet still finished second at Monticello. Dan Daley is the trainer-driver.

The interesting horse in the lineup is the Conway Hall-Coco Robin colt, Taxman. This 2-year-old comes off a brilliant effort when he trotted his final stanza in 28.3. Brad Kramer gets the return call for trainer Rob Harmon.

The pricey Archangel ($120,000) goes out for trainer Peter Arrigenna and reinsman Troy Boring. The Credit Winner-Michelle’s Angel colt has yet to break his maiden but has shown steady improvement with a pair of seconds in NYSS events.
