Columbus, OH — The draw for the four divisions of The Next Generation at Eldorado Scioto Downs is coming up on Tuesday (June 29).

Races will be held over the July 4 weekend, which historically had been the timing for the first leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-olds. The trot races will be held next Friday (July 2) with the pace divisions held next Saturday (July 3).

“We came up with this concept 2-1/2 years ago,” said Eldorado Scioto Downs director of racing Jason Roth. “In 2020, the inaugural year, we only held pace races, and are happy to see that all four divisions filled up with no issues this year.”

The Next Generation required a nominator to purchase a spot for $10,000 by March 15. Nominators did not need to declare which horse they were planning to race at the time; those declarations are due Tuesday (June 29) when the box closes for the Friday-Saturday double draw at 2 p.m. The actual draw for the four divisions of The Next Generation will be done Tuesday evening during the live race card.

“We will be doing the draw live during Tuesday racing the old fashioned way, with draw sheets and pills,” said Roth. “This race deserves the added attention being the first big race for 2-year-olds, as each division goes for $150,000.”

Nominators can sell spots at any point leading up to when the box closes, but both parties (seller and buyer) need to notify the race office that a transfer of the spot has taken place. Anyone interested in selling or buying a spot can call the Director of Racing at 614.295.4082.
