Wilkes-Barre, PA — Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs has announced its schedule for the 2009 live harness racing season, a campaign marked by a return to live night racing at the track for the first time in four years.

Opening night for the 2009 season at Pocono is Wednesday, April 1. The season concludes on Saturday, November 21. There are 135 racing dates on the schedule.

There will be a brand new weekly schedule in place this year as well. Racing will now be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, with post time on those nights set at 6:30 p.m. There will also be afternoon racing every Saturday during the meet. Post time for Saturday cards will be at 1:00 p.m.

“This upcoming year will be an exciting one for racing at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs,” said President and CEO Robert Soper. “Not only are we excited that the quality of harness racing will continue to excel as we host some of the best drivers and fastest horses in the country, but we are thrilled to bring back night racing as requested by our local fans.”

In addition to a return to night racing, Pocono also once again has a full schedule. The 2008 season was shortened to 95 racing days to accommodate construction of a new multi-million dollar paddock area. The impressive new indoor climate-controlled paddock will be ready for horsemen when they begin arriving for the 2009 season.
