NJSS pacers headline Freehold’s Saturday card

Freehold, NJ — Freehold Raceway has got a loaded card on Saturday (Sept. 7), and the New Jersey Sire Stakes for 2-year-old filly pacers will serve as the headliner.

As the race attracted 11 entrants, it was split into two divisions. One division, which drew a field of five, will be run as a non-betting event, with a post time of 12:15 p.m.

Caviart Heather, for trainer Tony Alagna and driver George Brennan, figures as the most likely winner. She won a division of the first leg of the series last week, with a sharp come-from-behind rally in 1:57.3.

The other division consists of six pacers, and will be held as the seventh race on the 12-race pari-mutuel program.

It features a rematch between Odds On Hollywood and AP Emily’s Dance, who finished 1-2 in their division of the first leg last week. AP Emily’s Dance took a clear early lead and tried to open up in the stretch, before eventually falling short by three-quarters of a length. She’ll be driven by Andy Miller, and will almost certainly be hard-sent from post four.

Odds On Hollywood rated just off her rival early on in that race, then was angled wide and powered past for the win. George Brennan once again teams up with Tony Alagna.

The first pari-mutuel race on Saturday at Freehold is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (EDT).
