No Whip Chip wins feature at Scioto Downs; Peggy Sue scores on undercard

Columbus, OH – Friday night (May 31) concluded the first month of Scioto Downs’ five-month racing season. What started out as a wet and stormy night with a track condition of “good” turned into a delightful evening full of sunshine bringing the track to a “fast” condition by the third race.

The third race was a $15,000 trotting affair with a classy field of both mares and geldings. Peggy Sue has had no issues in the past racing against the boys and she proved so again to take a one length victory over A TC Queenie in 1:54.3. The 4-year-old mare who is owned, trained and driven by Brady Gaillers, was sent off at 17-1 and paid $36.20 to win.

No Whip Chip with Dan Noble narrowly won the evening’s feature, a $25,000 Open Trot, over Jailhouse Sam (Hugh Beatty) by a head. Tonight’s win marked the second in a row for No Whip Chip, who is trained by Meredith Noble. This 7-year-old gelding stopped the clock in 1:54.2 and paid $11 with the victory.

Gaillers Racing scored a driving/training double with Hey Sweetie in tonight’s seventh race. Hey Sweetie fought off an undefeated Gypsy Merlot (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) in 1:53.3 and paid $13.20 to win. The 4-year-old mare will be one to keep an eye on this summer at the Downs as she has hit the board in 13 out of the last 15 starts.

This summer’s promotions will include drivers passing out t-shirts in the winner’s circle after races. Scioto Downs will feature a Virtual Reality experience all summer that will give fans a chance to see what a race looks like through the eyes of some of the sport’s greatest drivers. Fans can get the chance to see a race from behind a Little Brown Jug winner (Wiggle It Jiggleit), a Triple Crown winner (Marion Marauder), 2018 Hambletonian winner Atlanta and many more. The Virtual Reality experience is courtesy of the United States Trotting Association.

There will be plenty of promotions to come this summer. Check out www.sciotodowns.com for announcements, race dates and post times.
