Nominations sought for the SRF Burke Humanity Award

Freehold, NJ — The Standardbred Retirement Foundation is accepting nominations for the SRF Burke Humanity Award, honoring the memory of Mr. James E. Burke.

This award, administered by the Foundation, is presented to an individual or group who has demonstrated exceptional care and compassion for a Standardbred horse or horses or has facilitated substantial positive change for the welfare of Standardbred horses.

The award honors the memory of the late Standardbred trainer and owner, James E. Burke, and is sponsored by his family.

This year the SRF Burke Humanity Award will be presented at the United States Harness Writers Association dinner on Sunday, February 25, in Atlantic City.

Award information

An individual or group nominated must have provided exceptional care for a Standardbred horse or horses. (Example, they may have nursed an injured horse back to health, saved a horse from slaughter, provided extended medical care, rescued a horse from an accident or a fire, etc.)

Nominees may live anywhere in North America and be of any age. The deadline for nominations is January 22.

Nominations for this award will be accepted from any member of the equine community. Endorsement by a licensed veterinarian familiar with the act of kindness is encouraged. Veterinarians may also be nominated. Only one nomination per person will be considered.
