Northfield hosts freshman fillies in Sires Stakes action

from Northfield Park

Northfield Park hosted nine $20,000 splits of Ohio Sires Stakes action for two-year-old fillies Friday night and the front end was the place to be most of the night.

Lmn Bred Stables’ Cee Cee Attack of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, visited the winners circle in the opening pace, going nearly gate-to-wire in 1:59.2 for catch-driver Sandy Beatty. The daughter of On The Attack is trained by Michell Nault. She defeated It’s Sunday Sunday and Super Sydney.

The first Sires trot of the night went to the undefeated daughter of Chip Chip Hooray, Midnight Hooray. Trained by Joe Essig, she was driven by Jay Cross, who remained undefeated at Northfield this year. The 2:01.3 mile for the Don Breeze and Patrick Sibler-owned filly got her to the wire ahead of Wildfire Windy, who raced strongly despite being parked the entire mile, while Bj’s The Bomb got show money.

The Jim Dailey-trained and driven Miss Dreamboat kept the front-end trend alive in the second Sires pace. Parked past the quarter by Ima Hazelnut, the daughter of Sadies Dreamboat rolled to a 1:58.1 win, holding off Ima Hazelnut by a nose, with Tanacious Tan finishing third. Howard Taylor of Penn Valley, Pennsylvania owns Miss Dreamboat.

The second $20,000 Sires trot of the evening went to trainer Rich Gillock’s High Class Broad. Racing true to her name, the daughter of Pegasus Spur won easily, going gate-to-wire in 2:05.1, benefiting from soft fractions. Dick Stillings made a rare Northfield Park appearance to drive the winner, who is owned in partnership by the trainer and Chris Chambers. Angel Annie was second in her career debut, while The Ladys A Looker overcame post eight to get the show spot.

A group of Jeffs were triumphant in the third pace of the evening, as Jeff Nisonger steered trainer Jeff Miller’s Evening Jet to, you guessed it, a gate-to-wire, 2:00.1 win. The daughter of Jet Laag, owned by the trainer and Jeff Philpott, beat Osborne’s Gypsy, who recovered from a break in the first turn and Ima Fast One.

Flying Rae made it six straight gate-to-wire winners in the third $20k trot of the night. The daughter of Pegasus Spur easily handled Kris’s Legacy and Shes A Mamiac to win in 2:04.1 for owner Bob Sidley, trainer Mike Medors and driver Russ Swartz, who pushed his Northfield UDRS over .450 with the win.

Pacing filly It’s Ladies Night returned $23.40 with her 1:58.2 gate-to-wire win. The daughter of Towner’s Big Guy defeated Sam’s Lil’ Kim and Meg Attack. Jim Arledge, Jr., trains the winner for Laura and Paul Baker of Galloway, Ohio. Kyle Ater was the winning driver.

The final trot of the night was won by Miss Snippy Queen, as Steve Carter ended the front-end bias, using a pocket-sitting trip to win in 2:04.2 over pacesetter Lilting Nila, with Dudette’s Mistake third. Carter trains, drives and co-owns the daughter of Master Lavec with Peggy Carter

Sires action wrapped up with a fifth split of pacing filly freshmen and the best was saved for last, as Brett Miller and Fun Time Filly swept to the lead first over after starting from post eight and then made a break, only to recover and win in 1:57.3, surviving a judges’ inquiry. Fun Time Filly, a daughter of Stand Forever, is trained by Ron Potter for F.T.F Farms. She defeated Capital Merger and Eyeseeyou.
