Hot Rum breaks track record at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

by Jim Beviglia, Publicity Assistant, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

George Napolitano, Jr. drove Hot Rum to an Open Handicap victory in 1:50 on Friday at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, breaking a track record for aged geldings on the pace.

It was the third straight win in the class for Hot Rum, who broke the mark of 1:50:3 set earlier this year by Armbro Animate. The 1:50 mile was the second fastest ever at the track.

The seven-year-old son of Cambest sat fourth for much of the race before moving to the outside on the back stretch. In the home stretch he blew by the pacesetter Mr Delite and paced away by several lengths at the wire.

Napolitano also trains Hot Rum for owner Richard Schwartz of Boca Raton, Florida.
