Nuncio leads PA Sire Stakes winners at Harrah’s Philadelphia

Chester, PA — Three divisions of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters were contested at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon (May 15).

The $75,300 second division was won by Stall TZ’s Nuncio. The talented Andover Hall son was patiently driven in the opening half, before storming home the final half in :56.3 under minimal urging. Nuncio trotted the mile in 1:54.3 for his sixth career win. He was making his first start in 2014 after earning $461,074 as a 2-year-old. Nuncio is trained by Jimmy Takter and was driven by regular driver John Campbell. Dony Andreas finished second and Shift Into Glide was third.

The $74,900 first division went to Wheelsandthelegman. The son of Donato Hanover fired fast off the wings, coasting to an easy win in 1:55.1 to remain undefeated in four lifetime starts. Wheelsandthelegman is owned by Beth Carroll, trained by Walter Carroll, and was driven by Jim Raymer. Journey was second and Jett Star third.

The $75,300 third division was won by Charlie Norris and Leonard Buckner’s Datsyuk. The son of Explosive Matter enjoyed the pocket trip behind heavily favored Don Dorado and was able to outduel the favorite in the stretch to win by one length in 1:55.3. Datsyuk is now a perfect two for two in 2014 and was driven by Charlie Norris. Don Dorado was second and JJ Alex finished third.
