from Batavia Downs Media Relations

Batavia, NY — Freshman New York bred trotting fillies will be on full display Saturday night (September 17) at Batavia Downs Casino with a pair of Sire Stake events and five Late Closers highlighting the racing program.

The Sire Stakes divisions, worth $58,712 and $59,812, go off as races one and five. The Late Closers, worth $12,300 each, are carded as races two, three and nine. Two non-betting events will be conducted before the 12-race program begins, with post time for those races at 6 and 6:15 p.m.

The Saturday NYSS opener is a very contentious event with all seven betting interests deserving the utmost respect.

The leading money earner in the field is Steven Goldstein’s Barbara Goldstein. In eight lifetime starts the Conway Hall-Amaris Hanover filly has earned $73,182. Kim Crawford is the trainer-driver. She should have no problem negotiating the Downs’ half-mile track as she has a pair of wins at Yonkers on her resume.

The morning line favorite is Borrow And Spend. The Credit Winner-Armbro Déjà Vu filly is a full sister to the Batavia Downs 2-year-old colt and gelding track record holder Dejarmbro. Ray Schnittker is the trainer/driver of this filly who sports four career wins in 11 lifetime starts and a bankroll of $63,815.

The intriguing filly in the first race is the Cash Hall-Centerfold Hall freshman Cowgirl Hall. She’s only made five career starts but has not been worse than third and exits a very fast NYSS division last time out at Vernon Downs. Gates Brunet is the trainer/driver.

Division two of the NYSS features the current points leader in the race to the NY Night of Champions finals, Lima Playmate. The daughter of Credit Winner-Pacific Legacy has already notched eight career victories including five wins in a row for co-owner-trainer-driver Ray Schnittker. She’s also owned by Lima Playmate stables. Lima Playmate sports earnings of $111,524. She starts out at 3-5 on the morning line.

Her main competition should come from Anandamide. She went off as the favorite to Lima Playmate when they last met on August 4 at Yonkers Raceway. The Credit Winner-Psychotherapist filly is a two-time winner from eight starts and has earned $61,678 so far. Trainer Annette Lorentzon calls on Jim Morrill, Jr. to do the steering.
