Ocean Downs hosts Maryland Standardbred Fund Stakes

Berlin, MD — On Monday (July 12) three Maryland Standardbred Fund (foaled) stakes went to post at Ocean Downs.

The 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings were the first to hit the track. Reinsman John Wagner was content to keep Trents A Lock (Lockkeeper) in the three hole until the three-quarter mark, then charged down the stretch to catch the leader Funnyfunnyriddle (Lockkeeper) in the final strides in the 2:01.4 mile. Wagner is also the trainer for owner/breeder Pam Wagner.

Littlebagoftricks (Roddy’s Bags Again) remained undefeated in 2021, taking the first split for 3-year-old filly pacers, wire-to-wire, in 1:55.2. Waterboard (Somebeachsomewhere) was up for place. Josh Green trains and co-owns with Rich Lombardo Racing and Charles Cochran III. Green Racing Inc. is the breeder and Russell Foster was between the wheels. Littlebagoftricks is 5-for-5 in 2021.

In the second split for filly pacers, driver Jared Moyer pulled Kelseys For Real (Rusty’s For Real) at the half, taking control to the wire in 1:56. Hey Hey Dbay (Roddy’s Bags Again) rolled down the stretch for second. Owner/breeder Pam Wagner picked up her second stakes win of the night with John Wagner getting the training double.

Maryland Standardbred Fund stakes continue on Wednesday (July 14).
