Ocean Downs hosts Maryland Standardbred Fund Stakes

Berlin, MD — Ocean Downs is hosting the sophomore Maryland Standardbred Fund (foaled) stakes this week.

On Monday (Aug. 1), Down The Pike Mike (Credit Winner) lived up to his name in his gate-to-wire victory over fast closing Jas Bluestone (Anders Bluestone) who circled the field, coming within a half-length of the winner at the wire in the $26,175 division for trotting colts and geldings.

Down The Pike Mike picked up his third lifetime win for owners Scott Leaf, Michael Ternisky and Gerald Fielding and trainer Erv Miller. Jonathan Roberts was in the bike for the 2:00.3 mile. Winbak Farm is the breeder.

Race six was the $28,675 division for the filly pacers. Reinsman Victor Kirby sent Bank The Win (Roddy’s Bags Again) flying out of the gate, finally getting to the lead past the quarter in a speedy :27.3. The pair were able to hold off Must Be Nice (Betting Line) by a half-length in the 1:54.3 mile with a closing quarter in :29.2.

Kirby is also a co-owner with Bryan Truitt and Bryan Truitt Jr. Truitt also trains the Winbak Farm bred filly.

The Maryland stakes season for the 3-year-olds concludes on Wednesday (Aug. 3) with one division for filly trotters and two splits for the colt and gelding pacers.
