Odds are in Schadt’s favor in Night Styles Final

East Rutherford, NJ — A three-horse entry from trainer Robin Schadt and Dana Parham’s Odds On Racing tops the field of pacing fillies in the $60,000 Night Styles Final on Thursday night (March 25) at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Odds On Moinet, the best of the Odds On bunch, bids for her fourth straight win and second series crown in the Night Styles Final. The daughter of Real Artist-Aparte won the $61,000 Tender Loving Care Final on March 5 and went on to win two preliminary legs of the Night Styles Series, including a career best 1:51.4 clocking on March 18. A $32,000 yearling purchase, Odds On Moinet has been first or second in 10 of 14 career starts and banked $68,039 so far. Rated at 2-1 on the morning line, she will start from post four in the Night Styles Final with regular partner George Brennan at the lines.

“I wasn’t surprised she won the Tender Loving Care Final,” Schadt said. “I felt she had the talent for that field. I was concerned with the post (nine), but George (Brennan) was up and he has been on a roll, so it was in his hands and he got the job done. She’s a Pennsylvania-sired filly and that’s what we’ve staked her for this summer. It’s a nice program and I think she’ll fit pretty well over there. If I were to be so lucky to have made a mistake where we would want to supplement her to something that would be a great mistake to have made.”

Odds On Moinet is coupled in the wagering with Odds On Dominica and Odds On Aventure, a pair of fillies produced by Parham’s breeding operation, Odds On Nourrir. Odds On Dominica was the runner-up to 5-2 Night Styles second choice Mid-Western Jatelo in round two of the series on March 18. A consistent check-earner, she is by the farm’s stallion, Make It Brief, and out of the Artsplace mare Odds On Dearly. Her stablemate, Odds On Aventure, is the most seasoned of Schadt’s entrants with 33 starts under her harness. While the daughter of Camluck-Odds On Affair has yet to find the winner’s circle this season, she sports a record of four wins, six seconds and five thirds for earnings of $44,133.

Schadt and Parham’s Odds On racing and breeding operations are located in Crete, Ill. The duo has made a strong commitment to racing in New Jersey this season and has been very active in the claiming box since January. Though Schadt is grateful for her success with overnight stock at the Meadowlands, it is developing young talent that she most enjoys.

“My favorite part of the business is to grab the babies and start from scratch,” Schadt said. “Odds On Moinet is one of them. Whether we buy them or breed them, there’s a personal gratification and satisfaction when you can take a young horse and bring them along. The odds are so much against you, it’s the most difficult part of the industry, but it’s the most rewarding when you get there. It’s just painful along the way sometimes.”

The Night Styles Final, which shares the spotlight with the $96,000 Horse & Groom Final for trotters, is carded as race five on Thursday night. Below is the field.
