Odds set for first Little Brown Jug future wager

by Tom White, publicity director, the Little Brown Jug

Delaware, OH — Wagering on the first of three Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will get underway at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 24, at racetracks and internet sites throughout North America. Future wagering will be offered through 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27.

North America Cup winner and Meadowlands Pace runner-up Somebeachsomewhere (3-1) is the morning line favorite in the future Jug pool. However, trainer and co-owner Brent McGrath said at the Meadowlands Pace press conference on July 15, “I love the Little Brown Jug, but I don’t plan on racing Somebeachsomewhere there because of the possibility of having to go three heats the week before he goes to Lexington.”

Meadowlands Pace winner Art Official is not eligible to the Little Brown Jug.

The George Teague, Jr.-trained Badlands Nitro, who won the $538,270 Art Rooney Pace, is next at odds of 5-1. Sand Shooter, who won an elimination of the Meadowlands Pace, is 6-1 in the morning line. Sand Shooter is trained by Jim Arledge, Jr.

The future wager allows racing fans to bet early on all 3-year-olds who are eligible to the Little Brown Jug. The minimum bet is $2.00 and all future wagers are win betting only.

Future wagering will be offered at Tioga Downs, Vernon Downs, Racing and Gaming Services, Inc., Harrington Raceway, Hazel Park, Penn Gaming’s Telebet and Ebetusa.com, Raceway Park, TRNI, Youbet.com and Plainridge Race Course.

Complete past performance lines for all Jug eligibles will be available free of charge on the Little Brown Jug official Web site.

A team of six racing analysts and handicappers selected the group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt was then assigned odds based on the selection order. The horses in the future wagering pool are listed in alphabetical order.

The rest of the 3-year-old horses were packaged together into one “field” wager. The field will open at 7-1 odds. Every 3-year-old colt in North America is included in the field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace he can be supplemented into the Little Brown Jug.

Tell All, who won the 2007 Little Brown Jug, paid $18.00 in the first pool; returned $28.20 in the second pool; and paid $8.60 in the third pool.
