Odessa Angus and Frank Coppola, Jr. surged past Linguinincamsauce to take Thursday’s filly and mare claiming pace at Saratoga.

Starting from post six with Frank Coppola, Jr. at the lines, Odessa Angus took her customary spot near the back of the field, settling in sixth place through the early stages of the race as Shaftsbury Filly (Brian Cross) took the field through opening fractions of :28.4 and :59.4.

As the field moved by the half-mile marker, Odessa Angus was angled off the pylons to flush out cover from Linguinincamsauce (Mark Beckwith), moving up second-over as Shaftsbury Filly reached the three-quarter pole in 1:28.4.

Shaftsbury Filly surrendered the lead to Linguinincamsauce at the top of the stretch, but that mare was unable to hold off the three-wide challenge of Odessa Angus, who charged to the front in the final yards to prevail by a half-length.

Owned by Michael Patrick Rafferty, and conditioned by Kelly Clark, Odessa Angus owns a seasonal record of three wins from 11 starts, with 21 career victories and $99,447 in lifetime earnings.
