OHHA’s older performers feted

Grove City, OH — Dancin Yankee and Lady’s Dude have been honored by the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association after stellar 2018 campaigns.

Dancin Yankee is the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association’s Older Pacer of the Year. This venerable 11-year-old world champion is part of the super-successful Burke Racing Stable (trainer Ron Burke) and the son of Midland Acres of Bloomingburg, Ohio’s Yankee Cruiser and breeder Elizabeth Yontz of Cynthiana, Ky.’s mare Dancewiththebest (by Cambest). He was foaled in Georgetown, Ky.

In 2018 at the age of 10, the career winner of 69 miles earned $193,275 and brandished a track record time of 1:48.4 at Eldorado Scioto Downs with regular driver Chris Page. Page closed out the season with Dancin Yankee this October at Northfield by taking the $60,000 Ohio Sire Stakes final in 1:49.3 for his 10th win of the year.

Lady’s Dude, OHHA’s Older Trotter of the Year, was foaled at Midland Acres in Bloomingburg, Ohio, in June 2011 and is a son of their trotting stallion Victory Sam and breeder Duane Lowe of Malta, Ohio’s mare Lady’s Star. Lady’s Dude now has 45 victories in 119 career starts and $793,848.

In 2018 the gelding took 11 of his 23 starts for trainer Ron Burke and picked up $158,750 with wins in 1:53 at The Meadows, 1:55.3 at Greenville’s Great Darke County Fair and 1:53.2 at Northfield in the $60,000 Ohio Sire Stakes final in his season’s finale with his regular pilot Chris Page.

Both these class acts, as well as the 2- and 3-year-old award winners, the OHHA Groom of the Year, and the Terry Holton Youth Award winner will be honored at the OHHA Awards Banquet on Jan. 19 at Marriot Columbus University Area, 3100 Olentangy River Road, Columbus.
