Ohio fair officials meet

Columbus, OH — Twenty-five fair racing officials from Ohio, as well as Ohio State Racing Commission (OSRC) executive director Chris Dragone and deputy director Tanya Boulmetis, convened on Saturday (June 11) at the Champaign County Fairgrounds in Urbana, Ohio, for a pre-season educational meeting.

Starter Mike Woebkenberg moderated the discussion, which included topics of race day procedures, medical assistance, Lasix use and recording, consistencies in urging regulations, reporting fines, and no contest races. The OSRC safety vest directive, that went into effect on March 1, 2022, was also discussed.

USTA staff person, Michele Kopiec, spoke on updated USTA rules, eTrack updates and reports available to racing officials to assist in daily racing tasks.

This spring meeting, an extension of the continuing education forum organized each fall by Woebkenberg, proved to be an excellent opportunity for Ohio officials to meet with each other, the OSRC and the USTA to prepare for the 2022 fair racing season.
