Ohio Selected Jug Sale held; sales topper fetches $150,000

Sunbury, OH — The 2014 Ohio Selected Jug Sale, held Monday (Sept. 15), at Eden Park Equestrian Park in Sunbury, brought record sales.

Thanks to Governor John Kasich and members of the Ohio General Assembly who provided the legislation which allowed video lottery terminals to be implemented at Ohio racetracks. Ohio Standardbred racing has rebounded to its traditional national prominent status.

The top selling horse, One Fine John (Hip No. 100), brought a record price of $150,000. This is the highest sale price in history for an Ohio-bred Standardbred. One Fine John is a black pacing colt by Big Bad John, out of One Fine Cam. One Fine John was purchased by Ron Potter, agent, from Delaware, Ohio, and was consigned by Spring Haven Farm, agent, for Gregory Triplet.

The next highest priced horse sold was a bay pacing colt named Shell I Be Bad (Hip No. 46) by Big Bad John, out of Shell I Scoot, who sold for $115,000 and was purchased by Carl Atley of Xenia, Ohio, and consigned by Midland Acres, Inc.

Big Highway, a bay pacing filly (Hip No. 61) by Big Bad John, out of Life’s Highway, was purchased by Carl Atley of Xenia, Ohio, and was consigned by Midland Acres, Inc. The filly sold for $93,000.

Bossy Aussie, a bay pacing colt (Hip No. 80) by Big Bad John, out of Darriwillian Girl, was purchased for $65,000 by Brian Brown of Delaware, Ohio, and was consigned by Lmn Bred Stables, Inc.

Save My Soul, a black pacing filly (Hip No. 140) by Big Bad John, out of Save My Life, was sold for $64,000 and purchased by Ron Potter, agent, of Delaware, Ohio and consigned by Spring Haven Farm.

The next highest horses each sold for $50,000. Standing Proud, a bay pacing colt (Hip No. 5) by Feelin Friskie, out of Deadlysatisfaction, was purchased by Mark Winters of Sabina, Ohio, and consigned by Winterwood Farm, agent for Gardner Farms, LLC.

Park It Park It (Hip No. 105), a brown pacing colt by Big Bad John, out of Park It Ashley, was purchased by Carl Atley of Xenia, Ohio, and consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency, agent for S. Stewart, R. Mondillo, M. Robinson and S. Cheatham.

The total number of horses sold was 233 with sales totaling $3,794,000 with an average of $16,283.
