Ohio Sires Stakes meeting set

from the Ohio Standardbred Development Fund

Columbus, OH — The Ohio Standardbred Development Fund will meet on Friday, December 11, at 1:00 p.m. in Room 1932 of the Vern Riffe Center, located at 77 S. High St. in Columbus, Ohio .

The purpose of the meeting is to finalize dates, purses, and conditions for the 2010 Ohio Sires Stakes.

There are many options that have been proposed for the OSDF Committee to explore. The most prevalent are:

  • The traditional four legs for $15,000 and a championship for $40,000-50,000 in early September.
  • Four legs for $15,000 and a championship for $60,000-80,000 in late October, with 3-year-olds starting the first of July and 2-year- olds beginning in August.
  • A series of legs, possibly 6-8, worth approximately $15,000, no championship, but a $5,000 bonus to the high point earner. This would need a change in law that would possibly delay this scenario from occurring in 2010, but could be ready in 2011.

The meeting is open to the public, and all Ohio horsemen are encouraged to attend.
