Ohio Sires Stakes nominees vie in Scarlet & Gray Invitational

Columbus, OH — Friday night’s (April 26) $50,000 Scarlet & Gray Invitational at Miami Valley Gaming & Racing features a full field of nine 3-year-old trotting fillies — all of whom have been nominated for the 2019 Ohio Sires Stakes program.

Only Take Cash, who captured the $275,000 Ohio Sires Stakes championship for 2-year-old trotting fillies on Sept. 8, 2018, at Scioto Downs in 1:57 is making her sophomore debut. The Cash Hall lass hails from the powerful Robert McIntosh stable in Canada and qualified on April 18 at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 1:56.4 with Bob McClure at the lines.

Only Take Cash was second in leg one of OSS competition last year before sweeping the next three legs of the series with ease for owners Robert McIntosh Stables, Dave Boyle and Mardon Stable. She wrapped up her freshman campaign with $272,140 in earnings.

Only Take Cash is the most prolific of six foals out of the world champion Garland Lobell mare Armbro Affair 4,1:53.4s ($430,997) and has half-siblings in Tough Affair (by Muscle Mass) 4,1:59.2f ($69,968) and A Fair Conchnito (In Conchnito) 4,1:58.2f ($33,866).

Bella’s Rose Power, who won the $60,000 Ohio Sires Stakes consolation for 2-year-old trotting fillies on Oct. 13, 2018, at Northfield Park vies in her third start of the season for trainer Chris Beaver.

This Triumphant Caviar lass won the OSS consolation last year impressively in front-stepping fashion for Ohio-based partners Beaver, Jim Gallagher, Marion Beachy and Steven Zeehandelar in 1:57.2 by 6-1/2 lengths. A winner of $89,635 lifetime, Bella’s Rose Power won a $15,000 Hackett elimination in 1:55 on April 8 at Miami Valley before finishing fifth in the $40,000 final on April 15.

Scarlet & Gray contenders Aunt Rose and See Me Sparkle each captured two Ohio Sires Stakes legs in 2018.

Aunt Rose, owned by Chris Beaver, Michael Carter, Joe Sbrocco and Steven Zeehandelar, and conditioned by Beaver, won OSS legs one (in 1:59.1) and two (in 1:59) last season. The daughter of Uncle Peter now has $64,588 in career earnings.

See Me Sparkle won OSS leg one (in 2:00.3) and leg four (in 1:57) for partners Martin Valentic, John Bednarski Jr., Kassandra Adams and James Bafia. John Adams conditions the Broadway Hall lass, who has $81,575 in her coffers.

Other Ohio Sires Stakes eligibles who are Scarlet & Gray contenders include Pure Chance, Spirit Bell and Back Splash — each of whom captured one Ohio Sires Stakes leg in 2018. Scarlet & Gray contestants Refined and Well I’m Fancy are also nominated to Ohio’s richest program for state-bred Standardbreds this season.

The Ohio Sires Stakes kick off leg one of the four-race series on May 3 at Miami Valley with events for 3-year-old trotting and pacing fillies, post time 6:05 p.m. (EDT). Sophomore colt divisions will be contested on May 5 at this same venue with a 2:05 p.m. post time.
