Ohio State Fair action continues at Scioto Downs

Columbus, OH — Saturday night (July 29) at Scioto Downs concluded the last night of 2-year old racing at the Ohio State Fair. As the 2-year-old trotting and pacing colts went head-to-head to battle for a combined purse amount of $287,100. There were three divisions of of trotters and four divisions of pacers.

The first race of the evening was a gate-to-wire win for Sultan Of Cash (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) as he stopped the clock in 1:57.2 for the first division of trotters. Sultan Of Cash is trained/owned by Roger Hughes Jr.

The photo finish was put into work in the second race, as it was the first division for pacers. It was Rock On The Creek (Chris Page) who got the picture win in 1:54.1. Rock on the Creek is trained out of Delaware, Ohio, by Brian Brown. This was Rock On The Creek’s first win of his 2-year-old season.

Another gate-to-wire win took place in the trotting division, where Cash Lane driven by Kayne Kauffman was able to pull out back-to-back wins for this colt. Cash Lane is coming off a first place win in the 2-year-old Ohio Sire Stakes on July 18. Mike Polhamus trains this talented colt while Richard L. Finfrock owns him. The finall time in this race was 1:57.2.

Bounding Dragon (Josh Sutton) took the win for the second division of pacing colts stopping the clock in 1:54.2. Bounding Dragon gets his first win of his career and a new lifetime best. Trained by Mike Roth, he is owned by Alan P Kieth, Carl L & Melanie D Atley.

The 10th race had a field of nine powerful trotters to conclude the last division of the 2-year-old colt trotters for the Ohio State Fair. It would be Cordoba Hall (Ken Holliday) to take the race, getting a new life time mark in 1:59.1. This was his first win of the season as well. Sherri Holliday trains as Black Magic Racing, LLC and Brian K Carsey is the co-owner.

In the third division for the pacers, a track record was tied in speedy time of 1:52.2, it would be Rockathon (Dan Noble) who got the job done and headed to the winner’s circle. This is the second win of the night for owners Carl L & Melanie D Atley, this time with trainer Jim Dailey.

Chris Page did it again for trainer for Brian Brown in the finale of the 2-year-old colt pacers divison. Lots To Live For got the win going in 1:53.1 in a close battle through the stretch with Letsallrock (Tyler Smith). Lots to Live For earns himself his second win of the season and a new season’s best as well.

Ohio State Fair racing is not over yet, join us here at Scioto Downs next Friday and Saturday (Aug. 4 and 5 ) as the 3-year-olds come to show what they are made of.

Friday will showcase the 3-year-old pacing and trotting fillies, while Saturday will bring together the 3-year-old colts for both trotters and pacers.
