Ohio State Fair racing returns to Scioto Downs

Columbus, OH — This year Scioto Downs will host three days worth of Ohio State Fair racing showcasing the state’s top 2- and 3-year-olds. Fair action starts on Thursday (Aug. 1) and continues through Saturday (Aug. 3). This year’s racing action includes $1.5 million in purse money. First race post is 6:30 p.m.

In the spotlight Thursday (Aug. 1) will be eight divisions of 2-year-old trotters for both sexes. Undefeated trotting colt Big Box Hanover in race one will try to keep his streak alive for trainer Dalton Walls. As the evening progresses there are several others who will try to maintain their undefeated status such as It’s Academic in race four for trainer Ron Burke.

In race eight there are two fillies who will have to battle it out head-to-head to stay undefeated. Compass Rose Dc is two-for-two in her 2-year-old contest with trainer Jason McGinnis. The Dan Noble trained and driven Eternal Faith is looking to go four-for-four. Lights Down Low will also look to protect her undefeated status in race 11 for trainer Trent Stohler.

A total of $339,300 will be raced for on opening day.

On Friday (Aug. 2) racing continues, this time highlighting only the girls with three divisions of the Pride of Ohio for the 3-year-old trotters. The pacers will get their time to shine with three divisions for the freshmen and one division for the sophomore girls. In race four, PJ’s Legacy for trainer Brain Brown and Ellagator for Chris McGuire will both try to stay undefeated.

On top of the fair action, Scioto will also have the $25,000 Open Trot with a field of nine going behind the gate for race five. The Fillies and Mares Open Pace will go head-to-head in the seventh race with a full field.

Saturday (Aug. 4) will conclude this year’s Ohio State Fair racing. Both gaits will be showcased on the final night. Three divisions of 2-year-old colt pacers will be battling it out for a total of $158,300 in purses.

Focusing on the sophomore pacers will be two divisions. In the first division there are nine talented pacers going to the gate. Yankee Boots took the Ohio Sire Stakes in an upset by a neck against the previously undefeated Rock Candy last Saturday (July 27). With a tough class it could be anyone’s for the taking. In the second division Rock Candy comes back, trying to make up for the upset last week.

Sophomore trotters have three divisions of the Governor’s Cup going for a total of $156,000. There are 26 trotters entered between the three divisions. With lots of talent and class these trotters will be great to watch for good racing action.

Along with the fair racing, the People’s Pacer is back in action as the 3-1 morning line favorite Sectionline Bigry will start out of post nine in the seventh race Open Pace.
