On The Cusp was a narrow winner in Monday’s Mares Open Pace.

Callahan, whose streak of three consecutive four-win days at the track came to an end when he only drove two winners, steered On The Cusp to a 1:53.1 success in the week’s female feature pace.

Rene Allard and Kapildeo Singh own the 7-year-old daughter of Camluck-Headline Hanover who registered her 20th lifetime victory. She has now earned $269,477 in purses.

Cooking The Books came storming down the lane with Allan Davis to finish second. Jeremes Sweetheart cut out the pace for Ron Pierce and held on in the four-horse finish for third.

Lloyd’s Lady, a 4-year-old by Quik Pulse Mindale from the legendary Delaware mare Sanabelle Island, got up at 21-1 for Montrell Teague to win the $15,000 mares pace in 1:53.1. Beechwood Diana (Ross Wolfenden) took second in front of Winbak Speedi (Allan Davis).

In deep stretch it appeared the fast closing Mindale’s Smile (Ben Stafford, Jr.) would win, but a short distance from the finish line she briefly locked wheels and broke stride.
