Toronto, ON — Ontario Racing, in partnership with Woodbine Mohawk Park, The Raceway at Western Fair District and Flamboro Downs today announced two new Late Closing stakes for Ontario Sired 2- and 3-year-old horses.

The new Ontario Sired events, the Autumn Series and the Harvest Series, will be offered this fall and worth more than C$740,000.

“It’s very important that we have a healthy Ontario Sired program,” said Bill McLinchey, Woodbine’s Director of Standardbred Racing, who led the development of the series. “These series offer owners and trainers an opportunity to point their strong, late developing Ontario Sired prospects to race for quality purses while trying to keep our fall time field size high for fans and horseplayers at Woodbine Mohawk Park.”

The Autumn Series, for 2- and 3-year-olds who are non-winners of C$10,000 lifetime before Sept. 15, will commence the week of Sept. 30 and offer two legs, worth C$8,500 each, followed by a C$20,000-added final for each of the four divisions.

Flamboro Downs will host the 2- and 3-year-old trotting fillies and pacing colts, while The Raceway at Western Fair District welcomes the trotting colts and pacing fillies.

The nomination fee for the Autumn Series is C$200, due Sept. 17.

The Harvest Series, contested at Woodbine Mohawk Park, will offer eight divisions, split by age, sex and gait, for Ontario Sired horses that are non-winners of C$30,000 in 2018 as of Sept. 30. Each division will compete in two legs, worth C$17,000 each and a C$40,000-added final. The 2-year-olds begin the week of Oct. 8 and the 3-year-olds start the week of Oct. 29.

The nomination fee for the Harvest Series is C$300 and is due Oct. 1.
