OSS trotters celebrating Canada Day at Dresden

by Gary Patterson, for Dresden Raceway

Dresden, ON — Canada Day (July 1) should be another great day at Dresden Raceway as the Southwestern Ontario half-mile oval will be hosting Ontario Sire Stakes 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings.

Sicario is the morning line favorite to win the first of two division of the OSS sophomores. The Holiday Road gelding has five visits to the winner’s circle out of 14 starts this year. Sicario is owned by Bax Stables and Dave Hudson while John Bax is the conditioner and Steve Byron is the driver.

Angus Hall gelding Jammin Jack is the second favorite in the first division of OSS trotters and is fresh off a win at Georgian Downs. Jammin Jack is owned by Winbak Farms, trained by Mark Steacy and driven by Shawn Steacy.

The second division has Leaderofthepack as the 9-5 morning line favorite for trainer Dave Holliday and Ben Holiday while Ryan Holliday will be at the controls. Leaderofthepack has finished in the top three spots in five of six starts in 2018.

Nobodynosjustice is the second favorite for Ecurie Gaetan Bono and trainer Dany Fontaine. Local driver Garrett Rooney will guide the Justice Hall gelding in his second OSS start this year.

On the undercard for the day, Grand Bay will be hoping to make it six wins in a row at Dresden Raceway for the owner-trainer-driver team of Jim Napper, Cathy Gaudreau and Tyler Borth. The 3-year-old Badlands Hanover filly is fresh off winning the C$12,700 final of the Mark Austin Pacing Series last week.

Dresden Raceway will not only be celebrating Canada Day with great harness racing action, but will also have special Canada Day giveaways from the Dresden BIA and will have an eight-foot long cake decorated like a Canadian flag.

Post time is set for 1:30 p.m.
