Other North American trotters shine in Sweden

Even though Lucky Jim, Enough Talk and Define The World didn’t sparkle in the Elitlopp, some other North American trotters were in the spotlight on Sunday, May 30, at Solvalla.

The 3-year-old filly Somekindacatch, by Yankee Glide and out of Catch A Train, bred by Fredericka and David Caldwell, was a very easy winner in a race for sophomore fillies. Somekindacatch had Erik Adielsson in the bike and led all the way to win by a length in 1:58.1f.

Somekindacatch is trained by legendary Swedish trainer Stig H. Johansson.

Ken Warkentin of the Meadowlands was invited to the Elitlopp, where he called several races over the three day meeting — including Somekindacatch’s victory, which went out on national TV Station TV4.

Erik Adielsson and Stig H. Johansson had another USA-bred winner in the 4-year-old I Won’t Dance, by Angus Hall and out of Do Si Do Hanover.

I Won’t Dance, who was bred by Brittany Farms, was an easy winner in the Club Grand Prix for 4-year-old trotters in 1:56.3f.

A crowd of 30,214 were at Solvalla on Sunday afternoon. The total turnover was a new record at 127.3 million Swedish crowns — or $16.2 million.

Lou Guida’s Lisa America, who didn’t make it to the final in the Elitlopp, stayed in Sweden and is going to race in the Norrland Grand Prix in a fortnight, but will later return to Jerry Riordan in Italy.

Another Elitlopp trotter also stayed. Elimination winner Ilaria Jet will now be trained by Finnish trainer Timo Nurmos at Solvalla. She was formerly trained in France by Fabrice Souloy.
