Pa Sire Stakes payments due on May 15

by Jerry Connors, the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission

Harrisburg, PA — Horsemen are reminded that nominating and sustaining payments for the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes must be postmarked by Thursday, May 15, to keep horses eligible to the stakes events.

Yearlings: A $50 payment is required to nominate a yearling to the pari-mutuel Sire Stakes; a fair nomination costs $5. The entry fee for yearlings must be accompanied by a copy of the horse’s registration paper.

Two-Year-Olds: A $400 payment is due to retain the right to race in the pari-mutuel Sire Stakes at two; the same situation for the fairs will cost $50.

Three-Year-Olds: The only payment due for sophomores is to sustain fair eligibility, this costing $100.

The Pennsylvania Sire Stakes are bigger and better than ever this year, thanks to an infusion of revenue from slots gaming. Some $10 million in purses will be distributed through the pari-mutuel and fair Pennsylvania Sire Stakes this season.
