Pacing sophomores return for round two of Kentucky Championship

Lexington, KY — The Red Mile will again host pacing sophomores for stakes competition, with their second-round divisions of the Kentucky Championship Series set to go on Sunday (Aug. 22).

Colts and geldings compete in a non-betting event for their lone $40,000 dash. First-preliminary winner Goldie’s Legacy draws the outermost post in the three-horse affair following his 1:49.1 victory during the make-up card last Wednesday (Aug. 11). Andrew McCarthy picks up the drive on the Jeff Cullipher trainee as he faces Komodo Beach, in rein to Todd McCarthy following a runner-up effort in round one; and Toronto, the Always B Miki colt out of champion mare See You At Peelers who will have Tyler Smith in the bike for trainer Robert Cleary after finishing fourth in the first round.

Fillies kick off the betting card with a six-horse competition for their single $40,000 division. So Irresistible enters as the 2-1 morning line favorite off a third-place finish in a Pennsylvania Sires Stakes division behind Mikala and last year’s Dan Patch 2-year-old Pacing Filly of the Year Fire Start Hanover. Andrew McCarthy drives the Always B Miki filly from post three as she makes her first start for trainer Noel Daley.

Classicist, runner-up in the first round, lures Luke Hanners to drive for trainer Tahnee Camilleri as she starts as the 5-2 second choice from post six.

The non-betting race goes before the pari-mutuel card at 12:45 p.m. (EDT). The 10-race card following also includes three $20,000 divisions of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series, two for the colts and geldings and one for the fillies. First-race post time for the betting program is 1 p.m. (EDT).
