Pair of Ohio Sire Stakes contested at Raceway Park

Toledo, OH — Ohio Sire Stakes action continued on Sunday night (July 17) at Raceway Park. Full fields of 10 2-year-olds were present in both the Ohio Sire Stakes for trotting and pacing fillies.

Rivervalleprincess was a nose winner over Special Lady D.

Pacers squared-off in the $34,700 Grogan’s Town Pace Ohio Sire Stakes for the second race of the evening. Gerald Weiler’s Rivervalleprincess, driven by Kayne Kauffman for trainer Tom Blankenship, out finished favorite Special Lady D in the final sixteenth of a mile by a nose in 1:58.1.

Rivervalleprincess came through for her third win in three lifetime starts in 2011. She is Gerald Weiler’s first experience owning a race horse and was purchased eight months ago in a private sale. Despite having two wins in Ohio Sire Stakes previously, this Victory Jate-So Very Nice filly returned $9.00, $4.40, and $2.40, and now continues her winning streak in Ohio Sire Stakes.

Special Lady D went to the lead early and led from start to finish, until beaten by Rivervalleprincess. Kates Beer Bunny was first over and maintained a position of third.

Wardon’s Daughter was a 2:03.3 winner for Ryan Stahl.

State-bred trotters were present in the third race on Sunday night in the $35,300 The Budweiser Trot Ohio Sire Stakes with another full field of 10.

Coming off a fourth place finish in Ohio Sire Stakes action at Scioto Downs, trainer Gregory Straub and owner/driver Ryan Stahl’s Wardon’s Daughter posted her first lifetime win easily in 2:03.3. U R Toast was placed second after Lady At Bat broke in the final sixteenth of a mile and was second placed third.

Out trotting favorites Jessica Action and Jessica Rayne, Wardon’s Daughter returned a healthy $39.00, $15.00, and $6.40.
