Pair of top fillies qualify

Columbus, OH — A pair of 2009 Dan Patch Award winning fillies took to the track on Thursday (April 22) in qualifying races at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Poof She’s Gone, who was the sport’s leading juvenile trotting miss last year, won her qualifying race in 1:58.2, while Fancy Filly, the top 2-year-old pacing filly, scored in 1:52.3.

Owned by Melvin Hartman, Irving Liverman, David McDuffee and John Fielding, Poof She’s Gone won 10 of her 12 starts last year and banked $1,036,956. The daughter of Kadabra-Travelin Superlite was a winner in the Breeders Crown, the Merrie Annabelle, and the Ontario Sire Stakes Super Final for trainer Richard “Nifty” Norman and driver David Miller.

Fancy Filly is owned by trainer George Teague, Jr., Ted Gewertz and Only Money Inc. During her freshman campaign she also won 10 times in 12 trips behind the gate, with $817,584 in purses. The Western Hanover-Fanciful Hanover lass was in victory lane in the Breeders Crown and Three Diamonds (in a world record clocking of 1:51.1).

After winning a qualifying race last Thursday in 1:53, Fancy Filly posted a 1:52.3 time (final quarter :26.3) this morning with regular driver Brian Sears in the sulky.

Also winning her qualifier on Thursday was Fancy Filly’s rival Put On A Show, tripping the timer in 1:54.4, with Tim Tetrick in the bike for trainer Chris Ryder.

Owned by Craig Henderson and Richard and Joanne Young, the Rocknroll Hanover-Stienam’s Place filly won seven of her nine outings last year, while rolling up earnings of $732,308. She won the She’s A Great Lady final at Mohawk in 2009 and was second to Fancy Filly in the Breeders Crown.

Top pacing gelding One More Laugh, in rein to co-owner/trainer Ray Schnittker, made his sophomore debut on Thursday as well, scoring in 1:52.4 (final quarter of :25.4) in his qualifying race.

The McArdle-Fancy Creek Funny colt won nine of 12 juvenile starts and banked $594,306 for the ownership group of Schnittker, Mathias Meinzinger and Jerry Silva. He set a world record of 1:49.2 in winning the Governor’s Cup at Harrah’s Chester and also was victorious in the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes final.
