Pair of track marks fall at Tioga

by Dustin Ross, for Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY — Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs has been the “record breaking day” for the past few weeks of live racing.

Two more track records fell on June 10 and it was on the first race of the card when My True Delight and Howard “Pacing” Parker lowered the mark for 4-year-old mares.

Parker sent the daughter of Bettor’s Delight first-over to attack through a :27.3 third quarter before clearing at the three-quarter pole in 1:24.2. The Judith Lanpher owned and trained pacing mare used a crisp :28.4 final panel to seal the deal in the opening leg of The Tioga Tyranny Pacing Series with a new track record for 4-year-old mares in 1:53.1.

Khifra Hanover lowered the track record for older trotting mares to 1:54.3 on Sunday.

Khifra Hanover shattered the trotting record for older mare trotters on Sunday in just her first trip around the Tioga Downs track with a mile of 1:54.3. It was the second straight week the 5-year-old daughter of Lindy Lane has lowered her lifetime mark for owner Julianna Sue Edwards.

Khifra Hanover left from the rail in the $15,000 Open Handicap Trot with Howard Parker in the bike and she used a strong three-wide move down the backside to clear to the front and stroll home for trainer John Stephenson.

Too Salty shocked the crowd at Tioga when the 3-year-old trotter made a break halfway through the last turn in the $22,500 final of the Susquehanna Trotting Series. They were twice as shocked three-quarters of the way down the stretch when the son of SJ’s Caviar was trotting up a storm to get back to the wire first in 1:58. Trained by Doug Miller and driven by Ray Schnittker, it was the fourth win for Too Salty, who now carries more than $20,000 in earnings in just six lifetime starts.

Howard Parker enjoyed his Sunday afternoon with five trips to the winner’s circle, while Mike Simons and Ray Schnittker each posted driving doubles.
