Paralympic winner declines Elitlopp invitation

Solvalla, SE — The French mare, Delia du Pommereux with Eric Raffin in the bike won the Paralympic Trot at Aby, Gothenburg Saturday afternoon in 1:54f (mile rate) followed by Very Kronos with Erik Adielsson and Aetos Kronos with Johan Untersteiner.

The purse for the winner was $180,000

Immediately after the race, Delia du Pommereux was invited to race in the upcoming Elitlopp at Solvalla on Sunday (May 30), and as everything was smile at that time, the invitation was accepted.

But when the owner and breeder of Delia du Pommereux, Noel Loic found, that Eric Raffin was fined 15,000 SEK – or $1,800 –  and was further stood down for three days for using his whip in the race, the invitation was turned down, and Loic stated, that he would never race a horse in Sweden in the future.

It was also very difficult to understand the punishment, which the judges at Aby handed to Raffin.

From the race, it shall also be mentioned, that the favorite, Ecurie D with Björn Goop was a big disappointment and finished last – the 5-year old trotter, who is the favorite for the Elitlopp, seemed to have problems with his throat.

On the same card, two big stake races for 4-year old trotters were raced.

The Queens Trophy for mares was won by Fifty Cent Piece (sired by Muscle Hill) with trainer/driver Robert Bergh in the Bike.

Bergh was only a nose from winning the Kings Trophy with Rome Pays Off, who finished strong in the open stretch, but didn’t catch the leading favorite, Ônas Prince (sired by Chocolatier) with trainer/driver Per Nordström in the bike.

The purse for the winner in both races was $120,000.
