Columbus, OH — Patrick J. McCrea, 75, died Dec. 5, 2020.

Originally from Upper Darby, Pa., he was a father of four and grandfather of four. He and his longtime wife Patsy raised their three daughters and one son.

Mr. McCrea was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and got his teaching degree at Temple. He was a longtime school teacher in Brooklawn, N.J. After retiring from teaching he moved to Dagsboro, Del.

Mr. McCrea was a family man and father figure to many. He was a longtime owner of a family grocery store, Chester Heights Market.

He was also a very good athlete growing up, baseball being his best sport as he was a catcher in the Little League World Series. He also coached basketball and really enjoyed playing golf.

He and his wife Patsy were longtime USTA members as they were successful owners of numerous racehorses over the years trained by the late Ernie Torbert. Mr. McCrea raced his horses at Liberty Bell, Brandywine, The Meadowlands, Freehold, and Dover.

His race horses included Sonsam’s Dream (the grand dam of Dream Away), Market Crash, New To Town, Town Dreamer, Camtastic Dream, Grand Lady (Hall of Fame broodmare and dam of world champion Glowing Report and grand dam of Well Said) and Yankee Promise.

He is survived by his longtime wife, Patsy; daughters, Kelly, Kim, and Kristy; and grandchildren, Morgan, Mekayla, Desiree, and Roy.
