Pats A Keeper sets stakes and track record at Ocean Downs

Ocean City, MD — The second round of Maryland Sire Stakes prelims for sophomore filly trotters and colt and gelding paces finished up on Sunday (June 30).

Pats A Keeper (Lockkeeper-Wark Woman) went wire to wire, in the record-setting 1:58 mile for three-year-old trotting fillies in race one. John Wagner was in the bike for owner-breeder Pam Wagner and trainer Arlene Cameron. Gittin All Sexy closed to take the place spot.
The second split for the fillies saw a quarter mile battle between HS Judy Jetson (Great George Two-Broadway Fooling) and Mary’s A Keeper (Lockkeeper-MM’s A Player) in a 1:58.2 mile only two fifths off the record just set. HS Judy Jetson scored the victory by a head in the photo finish. Joe Carroll trains for owner-breeder Cary Grady, Art Stafford Jr. was the reinsman.
The first division for pacing colts and geldings saw Montrell Teague send Owzitgoin (Rusty’s For Real-Race Me Valerie) gate to wire in 1:56.1 to win by three lengths over Dennis The Menace. Shaun Callahan is the trainer for Breakaway Racing. Breeders are Nick, Corey and Joanna Callahan.
With position changes the norm, the final stake of the night had three horses vying for the lead at the head of the stretch. In the end, the pocket sitting Officer Wholihan taking the passing lane and the first over Trump That Rusty slid past leader Bezerker to finish the mile a head apart. The photo revealed Officer Wholihan (Rusty’s For Real) tripped the timer first in 1:55.4 for owner Michael Torcello and trainer Arlene Cameron, Allan Davis was the driver.
Wednesday, July 3rd will feature the sophomore pacing fillies and trotting colts and gelding finishing their sire stakes prelims. All the point lists for the horses eligible to the finals can be found at msrfonline.com
