Peaceful Way equals world record

by Dean A. Hoffman

Lexington, KY — Peaceful Way trotted an impressive mile in 1:52.1, equaling Moni Maker’s world record for older mares, to take home the trophy in the $88,000 Allerage Farms for older trotting mares at The Red Mile on Saturday (Oct. 7).

Seven mares formed behind starter Greg Coon’s gate on an afternoon that was clear, but cold and windy. Solveig was offstride before the start.

Peaceful Way worked her way to the front nearing the first quarter in a modest :29 seconds, then picked up the pace to sail through fractions of :56.2 and 1:25 before pulling away from her pursuers in the stretch. The race was never in doubt as she won under wraps by open lengths.

The appreciative Red Mile crowd began applauding the champion mare as she trotted through the final hundred yards before the wire.

The 5-year-old Angus Hall mare is trained by Dave Tingley and was driven by Trevor Ritchie as she pushed her career earnings past the $2.7 million mark.

Abbey Craig finished second while Ticket To Glide got up for third.
