PEI to host Standardbred Pedigree Camp

by Norman Hall

Charlottetown, PEI — Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the Kentucky of Canada, will once again be the site of the Standardbred Pedigree Camp in 2008, a unique opportunity for breeders and buyers of trotters and pacers to put the pedigree into practice to improve their percentage chance of success.

This year’s event will again take place at the Atlantic Technology Centre and is slated for the second weekend in June, beginning Friday, June 13, with a welcoming luncheon.

The agenda includes sessions on Pedigree Basics, Stallion and Broodmare selection, and Yearling evaluation.

Norman Hall of Pedigree Matching and the Globetrotter pedigree program, will host the sessions with the assistance of several industry guests to be announced. Dr Paul Spears of Hanover Shoe Farms will return as a guest speaker and will be joined by two special guests from Finland. Henrikki Halme is the owner of Classic Equine, a stallion station in Forssa, Finland, and Mammu Mahlamaki and her husband Timo are small breeders who are active in the fast growing Finnish breeding industry.

Participation in this unique venture is limited to the first 30 registrants and registration must be completed by May 15. Already signed up for this year are several returnees from previous Pedigree Camps as well as new registrants from New Jersey, Maine, Wisconsin and Canada. Island breeders will also be in attendance as a number of seminar seats will again be sponsored by the PEI Colt Stakes. Early registration is recommended due to the limited number of seats available.

There will also be time for play including a visit to the races at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre, a traditional Island Lobster dinner, optional visits to the Atlantic Vet College, Island breeding farms, and all the delights offered by the Garden Of The Gulf, Prince Edward Island.

Proceeds from registrations are used to support the Island Breeder’s resource centre in Charlottetown. To book your spot or for further information call Norman Hall at (902) 367-3495 or email norman@pedigreematching.com.
