Peter Lutman, 79, dies

Columbus, OH — Peter John Lutman, Sr., 79, of Loch Sheldrake, N.Y., a driver and trainer at Monticello Raceway, died Oct. 24, 2012, at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.

The son of the late Victor Lutman and Wilda Rutledge Lutman, he was born January 7, 1933, in Goderich, Ontario, Canada.

Mr. Lutman was a member of the USTA and a former director of the Monticello Harness Horsemen’s Association where he was once the recipient of the Good Guy Award. He raced at many different tracks, both in the United States and Canada.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor; son, Peter J. Jr.; grandchildren, Jimmy Shields (companion Allison Whipple) and Peter J. III (companion Megan Gilmour); and great-grandchildren, Peter Joshua and Nicholas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David; and a brother, Glenn.
