PHHA increases Sire Stakes Consolations to $240,000

by Ed Kobesky, Director of Media & Marketing, Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association

Harrisburg, PA — Earl Beal, Jr., President of the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association, today announced that the organization has increased purses for the 2-year-old and 3-year-old consolation races in this year’s Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championships.

The purses are now $30,000 per race — a $10,000 increase.

Due to construction at The Meadows, this year’s championships and consolations are being held at Harrah’s Chester Racetrack and Casino. The four 3-year-old consolations will be held on Sunday, September 7, and the four 2-year-old consolations are slated for Wednesday, September 24.

“The Pennsylvania Sire Stakes have consistently offered some of the most competitive championship racing in the industry,” said Mr. Beal. “With more quality horses this year than ever before, we expect the consolations to be nearly as exciting as the championship races themselves. Therefore, increasing purses makes sense and should also help reward the many great horses that just miss the championship cut.”
