Phillip Beauchamp, 72, dies

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — Phillip Roland Beauchamp, 72, died surrounded by his family at Milford Memorial Hospital on April 27, 2018.

He was born on June 14, 1945, to Wanda Hensley (Walker) and Arthur Lyden Beauchamp Jr. He spent most of his life on the family farm that he loved. He started working as a millwright for Messick and Gray Construction in 1963 with the help of Bill Gray who taught him everything he knew. He left there to work on the family farm.

Over the last 30 years he developed a passion for training Standardbreds, which was enhanced by his son Jeff and Ronald Short.

He is survived by his special friend of many years, Sandy Smith; children, Dawn (Edward) Hood, Phillip Jeffery and Donald (Gracie); grandchildren, Douglas, Matthew Hood, Anna O’Brien, Brenna Hood and Jessica; sister, Phyllis Murphy; brother-in-law, Ralph Myer; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nancy Myer and Linda; and his very special Aunt, Ruth.

He will be remembered by his friends and family as a man of very few words. He had a big heart and was a homebody who enjoyed watching westerns and NASCAR. For years, he was found hanging out with his early morning breakfast crew. As his health declined he was comforted by the support of his nephew, Chris Mumford and Wayne “Fred” Cannon.

The family will hold a casual memorial service on the family farm in Bridgeville on May 5 at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Horse Lovers United, P.O. Box 2744, Salisbury, MD 21802 or Harness Horse Youth Foundation, 215 East Main Street, Sudlersville, MD 21668.

Arrangements are by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood, Del.
