Thursday night’s Late Pick 4 at Cal Expo now comes with a $10,000 guaranteed gross pool, with both the Early and Late Pick 4 on Thursday featuring a reduced 15 percent takeout.
Cal Expo racing analyst Gregg Pistochini has put together a $45 ticket for the sequence, which covers the sixth through ninth races on the program. He uses five horses in the first leg in Victory Felicia, Acapulco Gold, Goli Tie, Final Chapter and C Miracle Mary (1-2-4-6-7); he has Kikiskissinkousin, Scooter Babe and Persuade Me (4-5-6) in the next leg; his single is Hope Tu Place (2) in the eighth; and he finishes up with W D Justice Cowboy, Vic The Brick and Faketu Bluegrass (1-5-7) in the final.
“There’s an important scratch in the first leg with the 2-1 morning line favorite Claim Jumper coming out, and I’m going five deep in that race,” Pistochini said. “I’m giving Goli Tie the edge because he had trouble last week and is getting a positive post switch.”
Pistochini goes three deep in the seventh race, which finds some hard-knocking pacing mares doing battle. “Scooter Babe is probably the best mare and had a tough trip last time, Kikiskissinkousin comes to play week-in and week-out and Persuade Me always has to be respected.”
Hope Tu Place is Pistochini’s singleton in the eighth race for trotters. “She’s tactically handy, she took a lot of air last week and now she gets a nice shift in the posts,” he explained.
He hopes to close the deal with a trio in the evening’s ninth event. “W D Cowboy Justice goes from the nine hole to the rail, which is huge. Tim Maier is on fire so you have to use Faketu Bluegrass, and I have a feeling Vic The Brick may be coming up to a good one.”
