Plainridge cancels Monday card

from Plainridge Racecourse

Plainville, MA — With Hurricane Sandy predicted to strike somewhere on the eastern seaboard early next week, Plainridge Racecourse has canceled its program scheduled for Monday (Oct. 29). The decision was made after consultation between track management, the Harness Horsemen’s Association of New England and the Massachusetts Racing Commission.

Though the path and timing of the storm remains a bit unclear at this point, heavy rain and high winds seem a near certainty in southeastern Massachusetts. The parties felt that the timing of the decision not only protects the health and welfare of the horses and horsemen, but affords everyone plenty of time to deal with the situation.

Trainers should note that the classes originally carded for Monday will be written back on Thursday (Nov. 1.) That card will now be drawn on Saturday (Oct. 27).

The canceled program will be rescheduled at a future date, prior to the conclusion of the 2012 Plainridge meet, which ends on Nov. 24.
